The worst thing to happen in 2010 is the continued deployment of Internet Explorer IE 8. This Microsoft browser takes the cake for being the largest disappointment in the web design community of any browser to date.

Basically, IE8 does not render websites correctly, requiring the web design community to create workarounds for the CSS code used for style format. Apparently when asked, the majority of web designers identify the positioning of web elements on web pages as the most irking issue presented by IE 8.

“You work to get everything right in all the other browsers, then test it in IE 8 and nothing is as you designed it. I can’t predict what IE 8 will do to the design until I open it in the browser.”

Software web development companies who specialize in producing applications for social networking sites like facebook, myspace, orkut and many others are quickly becoming a new force to be reckoned with by traditional brand and ad agencies whose core value is brand building.

The main reason I’m writing about this is because the introduction of Just-in-Time manufacturing processes has allowed T-shirt companies to flourish on the web. Companies like Zazzle, 3dRose, Internet-T-Shirts, jinx and millions more provide a cheap way to promote your brand using traditional mediums like t-shirts and hats.

It’s so cheap now that every company should consider using this medium, but think viral when you chose a design or a slogan.

SuperBowl After life

How long can a Superbowl Advertisement live? It wasn’t long ago that an advertisement produced for the Superbowl had a half life measured in days and a final death measured in months. Now, with the internet and the advent of viral social media marketing, these previously retired ads are resurrected and destined for greatness once again.

Like your favorite 70’sitcom actor or actress, the publics’ insatiable appetite for entertainment brings old Superbowl ads back to life through the internet. By using viral marketing concepts, tweaking the ad for a more modern message or just by offering it “free to see” in exchange for website traffic or advertising, the older ad extends its owner’s marketing dollar.

Denied Airtime by CBS

Creative teams should be aware that viral marketing is called viral because the final advert will probably not get main stream syndication and distribution, especially in the US. A great example is with the Man Crunch ad that promotes a male gay dating service.

The creators attempted to air the video on the CBS website, but the traditional network clearly made their case by flatly saying NO to the application. One might have to wonder if this was the strategy from the beginning, as the rejection from CBS has catapulted the gay advert to an overnight success.

Another touchy Superbowl Ad that may or may not make its way into the viral market is the Tim Tebow anti abortion ad.

Again, going viral is more defined by society’s social standards than form or production quality. Go Big, Go Viral.

Once Tiger Woods infidelities were discovered many people tried to estimate the damage done to his massive endorsement fortune. The verdict is in and it’s going to be a very expensive affair.

AT&T ended its sponsorship with Tiger Woods in December, saying it “wished him well” and offered no further information.

Other loss of income included the “scaling back” of Tiger endorsements from the following list of companies:

4. Tag Huer
5. Electronic Arts
6. Proctor & Gamble

Rasmussen polling showed the public evenly divided on the topic of endorsements with 34% of the public polled saying endorsements should be dropped and 37% saying it shouldn’t matter.

When to Worry?

The W32/Induc-A virus is the very first of its kind. A virus that infiltrates the core or kernel of a development community. Such a virus now exists. It has taken the Delphi Development Community by complete surprise. Companies like Glary Soft who produce the free download “Glary Utilities” has been hit hard. Being an infiltrator, the virus gains access to any and all programs created using the Delhi programming environment or compiler versions 4, 5, 6 and 7.

Is this serious and should you be worried? YES, because in less than four (4) days the virus was known to have infected more than 3,000 programs. The good side of the bad is that apparently the virus was created not to harm anything, but only to replicate itself throughout programs based on the Delphi compiler.

If you or your anti-virus discovers this virus, do not think its a false positive. According to experts, this virus is for real. Uninstall any of the programs you believe infected and reinstall according to the suppliers website instructions. Many software companies are releasing fixes as you read this article.
